A Champion Combination

The Past, the Present and the Future!

Every once in a while we experience something in our lives that changes us forever. Even more rarely does something happen in our lives that not only change us forever, but also affects a multitude of others as well. This is exactly what the stallion, 222, has done to Ernie Sanz, his family, and many like myself, who have had our lives touched by him.

Ernie has just celebrated his 20-year anniversary in the horse industry (In the year 2000). He has often told me how, he owes so much to his parents for who he is and where he is today. What his father has taught him about the breed and about horses in general, would take volumes to write. His mother blessed all of us, by imparting to Ernie a set of Values that this world desperately needs today and because of that Ernie and his family are a blessing to all they come in contact with. Ernie and his wonderful wife Betty prayed the Lord would bless them with a Stallion that would not only improve the Paso Fino Breed, but would also be a blessing to them and allow them to be a blessing to others as well. What I believe they were given was a perfect answer to their prayer in 222. Many of you already know the story of the name 222 and it's significance in Ernie's life, so I won't cover that again. This horse's influence on people seems to continue to grow more and more all the time, as does his ability to sense his importance to the breed and respond accordingly.

Recently 222 had the opportunity to give a demonstration in the country of Puerto Rico. Some have described this moment as beyond words. The noise from the crowd, that night was a fever pitch, as if somehow sensing they were about to witness a performance like few have ever seen before. As 222 approached the arena that night, Henry Montoya was taken back by the movement he felt under him, though he had ridden this wonderful animal many times before. Something seemed different this night, the power, the presence, or was it just the feeling of the moment. Whatever it was 222 moved like a horse possessed by his ancestors, whose blood flowed through his veins and embodied his very being that night. The way he held himself left you breathless. His years of marvelous training and nurturing in the hands of a master like Alberto Sierra came out fully that night. As he entered the ring a hush seemed to fall over this excited crowd and for what seemed like forever they could do nothing but sit and soak in the site they were seeing. Later some older men admitted they were moved to tears at what they saw that night. Then an uncontained reaction came over that crowd and in what seemed like choreographed unison the crowd rose as one and applauded, as they had never done before. For this wonderful stallion gave the people of Puerto Rico that night a performance they still speak of today. People watched as 222 moved with grace and beauty, combined with power and speed to give such a fluid movement, that in their minds many admitted that they couldn't help, but think back to the two other Champion Fino stallions. These two stallions had stolen the hearts of avid Paso Fino fans as none before them ever had and some believed never would again. These were none other than the legendary Contrapunto and Bochica. More than one person, who witnessed 222's performance that night commented that what they saw, was a combined reflection of these two great stallions, brought to life in their presence.

This wonderful stallion will someday be fondly remembered as the one who gave people a glimpse of their glorious past, while at the same time causing them to ponder the unlimited future. As of Ernie, his family and people like me it is enough to revel in awesome present and just watch as this horse writes his own story daily. He is already producing offspring that reflect his size, beauty, movement, and most of all his wonderful temperament. It always seems hard to believe, but a handful of stallions like this, seem to be able to produce even better than themselves, if that is possible. This is what is happening with 222. I join Ernie and the many others who feel that we owe the Lord a big thank you for blessing us with the chance to experience this wonderful creation of his. I can't encourage you enough to make him a part of your life, then you too can count your blessings. For as I've said in 222 the past is brought to life, the present, is enhanced, and the future is very bright.
